The United States
Congress passed the Port Act on September 30th,
2006. President Bush then signed the Port Act
which, included the Unlawful Internet
Gambling Enforcement Act, on Friday the
13th, October 2006. This took everyone by
surprise in the online gambling industry. Major
poker rooms such as Party Poker, Paradise Poker,
PokerRoom and many others banned U.S. players
right away. Even with signing of the Unlawful
Internet Gambling Enforcement Act, US poker
players continue to play online poker with US
player friendly online poker rooms that are
still accepting US players.
The important thing to remember about this
new legislations is that it does not make online
gambling in the USA illegal. The act is aimed at
blocking financial transactions related to
online gambling, but it won't in the long run.
